Sail Buffalo

The Sail Buffalo project entails the transformation of an abandoned inlet into a Community Boating Center that provides public access to Buffalo’s waterfront. We are an accredited sailing school with a mission to create an exciting safe and secure facility on Buffalo’s Outer Harbor, enabling public access to the waterfront through boating, wellness and environmental programming. Our goal is to provide a destination for on-the-water training, holistic learning experiences, wellness and environmental education regardless of income, gender and age, including people with disabilities, and to provide a safe-haven for young veterans and their families.

Our History

Being on the water is a truly transformative experience. After the launch of our unique Eco Floating Classroom 2011, and after merging with Cazenovia Community Resource Center (501-C-3) during 2012, we have finally found an ideal location at 2 Fuhrmann Blvd by the USCG, and created a true Community Boating Center!

We Invite You to Join Sail Buffalo’s Sailing Community

For a one-time initiation fee plus low yearly fee, Sail Buffalo’s community has season-long (May 15 – October 15) access to a fleet of well maintained sailing yachts. With use of our sailboats, friends of Sail Buffalo can cruise Lake Erie, spend a day/evening on the water, or head-out for just a few hours.

Sail Buffalo offers a comprehensive education program for its community who are new to sailing or who wish to enhance their skills and certification prior to taking the helm on their own. We are affiliated with American Sailing Association and offer ASA accredited courses from Basic Keel Boat through Bareboat Cruising. Our goal is to train you to be a confident and knowledgeable sailor.

The 2015 Sail Buffalo Fleet is comprised of sailboats by well known international builders such as Hinterhoeller, Pearson and Paceship 32 for advanced courses. These good quality sailboats are well maintained and feature sleek hull designs and clean, comfortable interiors.

Friends of Sail Buffalo are a fun-loving group of people, mostly from the Buffalo, NY area. Many are capable of owning their own boat, but choose Sail Buffalo instead as a matter of convenience and camaraderie.

Simply relax and enjoy!

All-Inclusive Pricing for Boat Use

Sail Buffalo pricing is all-inclusive, covering the dock fee, insurance, maintenance, and fuel for local use of sailboats. Fuel consumed by sailboats during extended trips at any time is paid for by the Member.

Gives members access to the basic fleet of sailboats, discounts on education, access to higher end boat rental when available, and invitation to club social events. A one-time initiation fee of $500 is charged for orientation and setup in the program. Tax will be collected at current rate. We offer quarterly or Monthly payments, cash, check or credit-cards.

Sailing Instruction & Certifications

Sailing offers a lifetime of excitement, relaxation, camaraderie and fun.

If you are new to the sport or would just like to “test the waters” we suggest taking advantage of our weekly “Try Sailing” a two hour cruise on Lake Erie allowing people to see if sailing suits them. You will be able to steer, trim sails, or just sit back and enjoy the breeze. The cost is $89 per couple, with one (1) voucher of $50 which will be credited toward your first full course should you decide that sailing is for you. Send us an email requesting your 2 hour “Try Sailing” or call us at 716-432-6589. To learn more about classes and instruction, find out more here.
